There’s a calming rainstorm outside. Eve is chilling with a cup of hot chocolate and a cozy book. Nothing could ever bring-

BRRRRRRNG

Of course it had to be too good to be true. Her boss tells her the thunderstorm has caused enough damage to justify sending her out for repairs. Little does she know that repairs will be the last thing she needs to worry about tonight.

Outside BOX is an atmospheric 2D puzzle game, made in RPG Maker MV. You control Eve, an unfortunate electrician sent out in a thunderstorm to fix something. The game contains no combat, it is strictly a puzzle-oriented game. However, that doesn’t mean you’re entirely safe, as danger may lurk within the most unexpected of places.

There is a box.
Expect balloons, and to be ballooned.
Stay sharp, and pay attention.
And be prepared to look outside for answers.

Help, I can't get the fuse for the fuse box, I watched walkthrough but can't seem to get it what ever I do.

Little bad end games like this are awesome. Would love to see more like

Played through this game the other day, it's pretty neat! The puzzles were cleverly done for a game like this, and I was surprised by how well done the game over animations were. Usually it bothers me when inflation is used exclusively as a fail state, but between the quick restarts and autosaves and the secret bonus room, I didn't mind it here. The one thing I will say is that I also think there's missed potential to not have at least one alternative ending. I feel like the setup of the game would let you do a lot of creative things there, and it'd make sense if there was actually a choice to make on top of the puzzle to solve at the end

I liked it, felt very nice to explore the game both in engine and in the files, and the round art was really enjoyable. My only real gripe would have to be that the inflation was strictly the fail condition, which is just a personal peeve of mine when it comes to inflation fetish games. But going down bad ends is honestly half the fun of these survival rpgmaker games so it isn't nearly as bad as it is in other games

Also, I'm a sucker for any meta breaking, 2nd person style narratives in games (YOU are apart of the story, not experiencing it through the eyes of a character or via a proxy character. Think Oneshot for a good example) so that is a massive boon in favor of this

(Honestly kind of wish starting a new game with the win condition fulfilled triggered an alternative ending lol)

This was very fun, I knew instantly that I needed to go into the files to mess around with stuff, very creative. This games style is nice and simple, much better then the base sprite of RPG Maker. Makes me wanna find my own style even more then use premade sprites.

Was hoping for another ending if you fuck up the last part Eve grows again but oh well. Still one of the most creative and fun little Inflation games I've played. Hope to see more from you :>

This is a definite top 10 must plays for inflation fetish games <3

This game is truly a breath of fresh air in the WeightGaming's games scenery, and in the inflation games genre as a whole (since there aren't many of this kind around, and are pretty rare), especially for the original, ARG-like concept behind it (messing with the game files and stuff). Personally, I consider this one of the greatest—if not THE best—game among all the inflation-themed ones out there! Also, kudos to the incredible artstyle and inflation scenes (the SFXs are top-notch, I swear!) you featured inside 🎈🎈

Don't know if you will ever take time and dedication to craft a really high-hoped sequel, but if you decide to, I really can't wait!

😊

I unfortunately cannot figure out the last step. There's two BOX files and i can't figure out what property to change.

(1 edit)

two BOX files? What are their names and file types?

Figured it out. They both have the same name (BOX) but one is a folder and one has a type that I forget but it can be opened as a .txt document.

The phrasing is weird cause it's not in the *properties" setting on the computer but within the code that you see when opening the .txt file, at the end of it is a line that reads "mirrored=true" which you need to change to "mirrored=false"

I'm stuck in the first area and don't know what to do or figure out what to do next

Are there any scenes that aren't included in the post-game area?

totally stuck at the mirror. Don't quite get what to do with what the note now says, and with Eve in the box folder.

You do not need the mirror at that point.

i saw the credits on my end the post credits scene is there something i do for that or is it kind of just there

Did you investigate?

Is there something else i can do for that

If you replicate the actions taken in the post-credits scene, you'll be taken to a debug room containing every inflation event in the game

Seems to be too obscure for me clues when at propertys,  Now it just closes out instead of repeating clues.

i really liked the game even when it was initially released, very cool to see the completed version :D

I dont exactly know what it means when I have to look into properties, a little help

If anyone happens to be running this on Wine with Linux, you can use Peazip as a stand-in. 7zip gave me some mild problems.

That was a lot of fun!

Think the box is a bit buggy. First time the unreadable document disappeared after changing the world state; second time I kept the unreadable document and got a second glass shard. Wasn't able to progress past that stage though, wasted like an hour clicking every square.

Absolutely fantastic concept. Needs a sequel with Moar. I would love a game that has us digging through the game files to find the items. Several locked files and passwords all around. Even some items that used in the wrong places cause more ways to Game Over ;3

there's gotta be a guide or some hints for this game

(+1)(-1)

I didn't get very far and gave up. Put the file I got from the computer into the box that changes the world state and opens up the ground floor and basement but couldn't figure out what to do.

Judging by the above comment it involves editing the game files. Says find BOX and read newfound content and there's a file named BOX with a shard item I can't open because I don't have a program and I'm not paying for one and in the same file as the BOX file there is a ITEMS.rar I also can't open and also am not willing to pay for.

So I gues that's the end of the game for me.

7Zip and WinRAR are both free.

I feel like I might of got to the end, but I feel like I'm also missing something.

If you didn't see a credits scroll, then you didn't reach the end.

man i remember playin this so long ago and it was so fun and creative wish i talk more about it but it would spoiler people

Have you posted this somewhere before? i could swear i've played this game

This is an updated version of a game I made in 2023 for a game jam. Compared to it, this one has many more animations, reworked puzzles and a bunch of extra polish.

i remember it was quite tricky, nice to see it again and improved as well
